Pastor Harvard Stephens
The Rev. Dr. Harvard Stephens will be installed as the new pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 2417 Drexel Ave. Racine, on July 9, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.
Pastor Stephens is a third generation Lutheran pastor. He is the former Dean of the Chapel at Carthage College and at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He also served as the Lutheran campus pastor at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He has served parishes in Baltimore, MD; Columbus, Ohio; St. Thomas (United States Virgin Islands), and Mitchellville, MD.
His wife, Linda, serves as the executive assistant to the superintendent of North Chicago Public Schools. Linda has been a strong advocate against domestic violence. She was the first female civilian sheriff’s chaplain in Prince George’s County, MD. For many years she served on the Board of Directors of Women and Children’s Horizons in Kenosha.
Both Pastor and Mrs. Stephens have been active in the Kenosha Unified School District, supporting teachers, students, and staff while volunteering in programs to encourage character development and academic success.
Pastor Stephens is a graduate of Harvard College. He was ordained in 1987 in the Metro New York synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He is a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, and he received their 2016 Alumni Award for Distinguished Service. Carthage College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2001. Pastor Stephens is a frequent contributor to Lutheran publications. He performs a variety of music on his soprano saxophone. Pastor Stephens believes this is no time to live an uninspired life.
